Summary
[edit]DescriptionCoastal erosion next to the railway - geograph.org.uk - 1262818.jpg |
English: Coastal erosion next to the railway. Just over the border into Scotland, the east coast mainline from London to Edinburgh runs on an embankment very close to the cliff edge. The cliffs are eroding badly here (see 1262731)and the footpath has been diverted away from the cliff top, to run along the foot of the embankment on the other side of the fence. This embankment seems to have slipped and has recently been shored up with sandbags and a form of retaining structure. However, the retaining wall has already failed spectacularly and some of the sandbags have shifted (see1262770). |
