English: Coal mines in Limburg (1917). Assignment documentary on the coal industry. In 1917, Filmfabriek Hollandia was commissioned to make a film about the state mines in Limburg. The film was directed by Jules Stoop, since 1913, director of Hollandia and head of the film industry's documentary department. For the film, Stoop made recordings in the mines 'Emma', 'Wilhelmina' and 'Hendrik' in Heerlen. In the first part of the film, Stoop shows the underground work: descending with the lifts, the digging and discharging of coal and also a horse stable at more than two hundred meters deep, where a hoofsmith is at work. The second part contains mainly images of the ranges, briquets and overground offices. After the production of the film, Hollandia was commissioned to make four other films specifically for the Dutch School Film Commission. Stoop made up of four new films in Limburg, which were brought together with Steenkolenmijnen in Limburg under the common title Limburg. Limburg in beeld became Filmfabriek Hollandia's last documentary.
