  • Inscribed in pencil on verso: Anna Massey Lea, daughter of Joseph Lea & Anna Massey, b. Phila. 1844. M. Henry Merritt. Is probably the person who did this sketch at the age of 10. She became a famous artist in oils. She lived in England most of her adult life. She was known as Anna Lea Merritt. See: Lea genealogy. J.C. [?]/14/48. Found at Baldwin's book Barn, West Chester.
