English: In September 1992, Chicago's commuter railroad Metra operated its push-pull bi-level trains with new F40PHM-2 passenger diesels from EMD. This was near the end of the transition period when Metra was retiring their old Burlington Northern E9 streamliner diesels. The E9s were completely replaced a month later in October. Traditional F40PH units operated on the old Burlington and Chicago & North Western lines. Also, Metra Electric Highliner bi-level cars operated parallel to the Illinois Central mainline to University Park. |
