English: Cattle at Barkston Gorse Farm Barkston in the distance, SK9341.
Limousin cattle grazing in the early evening. This breed of beef cattle has become increasingly popular across the world due to the carcass being low in fat. They are a hardy and ancient breed originating from west of the Massif Central between Central and South West France and the cattle shown in the paintings in the Lascaux Caves are very similar. The breed was introduced into Britain in 1971 and quickly became the best selling beef, a position it still holds today. See http://www.limousin.co.uk for lots more information and a full history.
