English: Buried 122 years apart The gravestone in the foreground for the family of John Pitt is interesting for the fact that the eldest daughter (Mary) and the youngest daughter (Rachel) were buried 122 years apart. Mary died in 1810 in infancy and Rachel, who was born in 1828, died in 1932 aged 104. The inscription reads:-
By JOHN PITT Late COLOUR SERGEANT 86th Regt In memory of MARY, his daughter, who died At GLASGOW 6th July 1810, In infancy ISABELLA, his daughter, who died At EAST INDIES 27th June 1816, Aged 2 years JAMES CARRUTHERS, his son Who died here 28th April 1842, Aged 17 years The above JOHN PITT, died 3rd June 1847 Aged 64 years MARY CARRUTHERS his wife Died 13th August 1876 aged 88 years RACHEL, his daughter who died At HAWICK 18th FEB 1932 Aged 104 years |
