Figure 1.New Restoration of Megalosaurus (Streptospondylus) cuvieri
The restoration was made from Mr. Parker’s specimen. Oxford clay, Wolvercot, Dorsetshire. Corrected in a few points from the Paris specimen from Honfleur. The missing parts are dotted. One-sixtieth natural size.


Notes: Streptospondylus cuvieri Owen, 1842, here referred to the genus Megalosaurus by Huene, is considered a Nomen dubium by Carrano et al. (2012:255)[1] because the type material is lost and its initial description does not allow the identification of diagnostic/autapomorphic traits. Hence it is classified as Tetanurae indet.
The species “Megalosaurus (Streptospondylus) cuvieri” (Owen, 1842) is dealt with in this volume of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of America on pp. 451–453. The full reference of the corresponding work reads as follows:

  • Friedrich von Huene (1923): Carnivorous Saurischia in Europe since the Triassic. Bulletin of the Geological Society of America 34:449–458
