English: In zoological nomenclature, a nomen dubium (Latin for "doubtful name", plural nomina dubia) is a scientific name that is of unknown or doubtful application. Note that in the botanical nomenclature (the ICN, formerly the ICBN, and the ICNB) the phrase "nomen dubium" has no status (although it, and its synonym nomen ambiguum are in use for a name whose application has become confusing. Such botanical names may be proposed for rejection or conservation with a new type).
