Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Brighton: London Road railway viaduct (1) As a feat of Victorian engineering London Road viaduct takes some beating. It was built to carry the Brighton to Lewes railway line over the main valley that leads down to the centre of Brighton. It was completed in 1846, having taken just 10 months to build, to the designs of John Urpeth Raistrick. It has 27 arches, is built on a curve, and is 359 metres long and 20 metres high at its highest point. Some ten million bricks were used in its construction. Here the southbound A23 Beaconsfield Road passes under it, with the north end of the massive 251813 prominent on the horizon.
