Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Bracken infested sheep grazings at Nant Gwrtheyrn In the 19th and early 20th centuries these hillsides, reclaimed from the moorland by farmer-quarrymen, supported cattle and sheep. Hay was also grown and harvested each summer. Since WWII, as in much of Upland Britain, extensive farming practices have been adopted in the Eifl Hills to meet changing economic and social conditions. Small farms have been amalgamated and their lands now used as the sheep walks for a handful of surviving hill farms. One consequence of this has been the regression of much of the lower slope lands to a state of managed semi-wilderness.
