Русский: Фрагмент беседы с Николаем Иннокентьевичем Благодатовым, записанной Фондом "Устная история".
"В оттепельное время, после Сталина – там была масса интересных открытий. Открыли наш Серебряный век, выставка Рериха вдруг. Кто такой Рерих, что такое, откуда, почему? Совершенно не похоже на соцреализм. Потом оказалось, что он там не один, а целая куча народа там: и Добужинский, и Бенуа, и еще кого только нет в Серебряном веке! Было интересно, а потом оказалось, что после них был вообще там авангард, о котором слыхом никто не слыхал. И даже смеяться перестали: Аверченко там еще издевался над Малевичем, над кем-то там, модернистами, а в советское время было так глухо, что даже не смеялся над «Черным квадратом» никто, хотя там была масса всяких поводов пошутить. Но тем не менее ничего этого не было. И вдруг стало это открываться после 56-го года: Пикассо выставка, импрессионисты которые были запрещены, и так далее. Пикассо еще жив был в то время! Вдруг сразу оказалось, что искусство идет каким-то своим интересным путем, развитие от этапа к этапу. Участвовать - не участвовать, а следить за процессом, это как раз совсем не то, что ходить там и облизывать полотна старых голландцев, а только когда ты оказываешься в процессе вот сегодня, а что завтра будет… Это же здорово и интересно".
