Summary
[edit]DescriptionBlackdown roundabout - geograph.org.uk - 1540484.jpg |
English: Blackdown roundabout. Junction of the A452 north out of Leamington, Old Milverton Lane from the south-west, and the B4113 from Stoneleigh and Finham to the north-east. Blackdown is a detached suburb between Kenilworth and Leamington. It is characterised by Edwardian or late Victorian mansions set in extensive planted grounds - Giant Redwoods are prominent. The houses have all been converted to other uses and massively extended - Woodland Grange is seen on the right 1540420. When the county council remodelled the junction they entered into the spirit of the place and planted Giant Redwoods on the roundabout. The first trees succumbed to a severe frost but their replacements, seen here, are thriving. Sadly, the species never reaches its full stature in Britain because the trees tend to be struck by lightning once they become the tallest thing in the landscape. |
