[edit]DescriptionBidweg Sterre der Zee 1 (tot 1639).jpg |
English: Map showing the original route of the so-called Sterre der Zee Bidweg (processional prayer route of the Star of the Sea) in the centre of Maastricht, Netherlands. The bidweg is a 500 year old prayer route used individually, in small groups or in large processions. Our Lady Star of the Sea is a 15th-century statue in the Basilica of Our Lady, that has a long tradition of being venerated. Until 1639 it stood in the Old Minorite Church. Hence the prayer route started there.
The map used for this montage is by the French military engineer Larcher d'Aubencourt and shows Maastricht in detail as it was around 1750. The prayer route was added by Kleon3. |
