English: Dutch flags in Keizer Karelplein in Maastricht, Netherlands, on the day of the liberation of the city from the German occupation by the US 30th Infrantry Division. The square was named Julianaplein in 1909 when a tree was planted here commemorating the birth of the future Queen Juliana. From 1942-44 the Germans renamed it Willem van Gulikplein. The sign was taken from a NSB building. Photo collection of RHCL Maastricht, ref. nr. 29545. |
