Summary

[edit]
Description
English:
  • The story: The major crop in Bake Village, Yuezha Township, Danba County, Ngawa Prefecture, Sichuan (四川省 阿坝州 丹巴县 岳扎乡 八科村) was corn as of 2017. From 2017, the local official Jiang Chaolin (蒋朝林) advocated to grow a more profitable cash crop, "golden legume" (黄金荚). This business adventure was a failure in 2018 as there were insufficient wholesalers. It turned around in 2019 as Hema (盒马), the fresh food retailing brand of Alibaba Group, signed a contract with Bake Village.[1][2]
  • The language spoken: three people from two townships of Danba County were interviewed. The local official of Yuezha Township, Jiang Chaolin, spoke Sichuan Mandarin (0:58-1:29) with an accent of either his native Situ language (one of Gyalrong languages) or Khams Tibetan. Yuezha Township is at the language border of Situ and Kham. The female farmer is a native speaker of Sichuan Mandarin (1:41-2:09), an immigrant language of Yuezha Township. The handyman is from Kaka Village, Niega Township (聂呷乡 喀卡村) and he spoke Sichuan Mandarin (2:50-3:36) with an accent of his native Horpa language. The language distribution of Danba County is described here:[3]
