Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The XDO (Extended Defence Officer) Post at Beacon Hill Battery, Harwich. During the Second World War, this blockhouse would have been manned by Royal Navy personnel and used to control a minefield defending Harwich. Sea-mines in the estuary could be electrically detonated from the control room behind the observation slit. The ground floor of the structure was a pillbox which could defend the jetty and seafront with machinegun fire. The graffiti mural is a recent addition.
