Title |
La Tene III Bow BROOCH |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy Nauheim derivative brooch of 'Winchester' style (Hattatt 1985, 23). Spring of four turns and pin intact. The bow is set at right-angles to the spring. The upper bow is slightly convex, before tapering in strongly at foot. The decoration on the bow consists of five short vertical incised lines at the top and two groups of two incised horizontal lines mid-bow. There are notches on either side of the bow at the edge of the bow above the first set of lines and between the two groups. A similar pattern of two groups of two horizontal incised lines with slight notches between occurs on the foot. Extended, folded catchplate intact. Dark green patina. L: 44 W: 4-12.5 (complete, excellent condition). An example from the Worthy are, near WInchester, Hampshire is very similar in style and decoration to this brooch. |
