Nederlands: In 1933 sloot de Britse regering een concessiecontract af met de Perzische regering ivm de exploitatie van de Perzische oliebronnen. Voor de praktische uitvoering van de werkzaamheden werd de Anglo-Iranian
Oil Company (AIOC) opgericht. De huidige eerste minister van Perzië, dr. M. Mossadeq, wil deze maatschappij nationaliseren. De Engelse regering verzoekt het Internationale Gerechtshof in Den Haag om te beslissen dat Perzië zich zal onderwerpen aan arbitrage en het contract alleen in overleg met de AIOC zal wijzigen of annuleren. Het Hof komt nu bijeen om deze zaak te behandelen. Omdat de Perzische regering de bevoegdheid van het Hof niet erkent is er geen officiële Iraanse afvaardiging aanwezig. Wel bevinden zich in de zaal enkele Perzen die, toevallig, voor een "particulier bezoek" in Den Haag verblijven. Onder hen bevindt zich het parlementslid en jurist, tevens lid van de Perzische oliecommissie, dr. Ali Chaeygan. SHOTS: - Ext. Vredespaleis; - de Perzische gezant staat op het bordes een journalist te woord en vertrekt per auto; - int. rechtszaal: iedereen staat als de rechters binnenkomen en plaatsnemen; de president, de Fransman J. Basdevant, opent de zitting; - fragmenten van de zitting; afgewisseld met shots van toeschouwers; onder de aanwezigen is de Engelse ambassadeur, sir Philip Nichols; - de tafel, bestemd voor de Iraanse delegatie staat leeg; - statements van de Engelse procureur-generaal sir Frank Soskice; - Chaeygan beantwoordt vragen van een journalist. |
