Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "False door of Bateti

Bateti, an official, has emerged from his burial chamber, awaiting offerings from relatives and priests. The 'door' stood in the chapel of his mastaba tomb and he alone could pass through. The statue was a vehicle for his spirit, while Bateti himself lay entombed underground. This monument is unfinished. Images and names of relatives were drawn in black on the jambs but never carved, and now the pigment. has faded. The hieroglyphs above Bateti spell his name, yet only two were cut into the stone. 5th Dynasty (about 2494-2345 BC) Possibly from Saqgara Limestone
