Annette Island. (English)
"The shore of Annette Island cleared as a landing place for William Duncan's Mission in 1887. It was at this very place that the first flagstaff was raised on the island and where the Honourable N.H.R. Dawson, commissioner of education, hoisted the United States flag for the protection of Father Duncan and his Metlakahtla colony, to whom he extended cordial greetings. The illustration depicts arrival of the steamship 'Ancon' bringing commissioner Dawson and Father Duncan. It will be noted that the Mission bell is suspended between two trees in the left of the picture." Matthews' Independant Report. (English)
