Summary
[edit]DescriptionAll Saints Church - church organ - geograph.org.uk - 850537.jpg |
English: All Saints Church - church organ. All Saints' octagonal tower > 850528 with a door in its middle stage dates from the 14th century; it is believed that the tower was higher before the Reformation, and that Sir Thomas de Hauville - the then Lord of the Manor, and Keeper of the King's Hawks - used to watch his charges from its height. The church > 850526 - 850535 - 850540 was extensively restored in the 19th century (by architect Frederick Preedy) and the pulpit as well as the tiny organ (seen here) date from this time. Older survivals are some C15 poppyheads affixed to benches in the north aisle > 850536 and the octagonal C15 font > 850542. A plaque on the south nave wall commemorates William Newman, a poor boy raised by the parish, who later made his fortune in London and willed some of it to the poor of the parish on his death > 850546. There are some C18 ledger slabs on the chancel floor > 850539. The church is open every day. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/kettlestone/kettlestone.htm |
