Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A traditional flower-rich meadow near Thwaite in Swaledale At Thwaite, the Pennine Way National Trail passes through a number of traditional hay meadows, which in Spring and Summer are a riot of colour.

This is Swaledale, the most northerly of Yorkshire’s major dales.

Thwaite is a Norse name meaning ‘clearing in the woods’, which suggests that the area was once forested before it was cleared for farming.
