Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A symbolic gravestone at St Helens Churchyard, Cockburnspath. This old gravestone stands against an ivy-clad boundary wall in the churchyard. The symbols of death are represented by the crossed femur bones and the skull or ‘death’s head’ below a winged soul, a symbol of immortality. The anvil, hammers and pincers indicate that this is the grave of a blacksmith.
