Summary
[edit]DescriptionA lichen - Ramalina farinacea - geograph.org.uk - 1073623.jpg |
English: A lichen - Ramalina farinacea. This is a very common species on trees. It has tufts of flattened green branches. This species could be confused with Evernia prunastri, but has branches that are green above and below, while those of E. prunastri are green above, but paler below; compare: 1073663.
In this photo, the branches can also be seen to have small rounded structures on them; despite appearances, these are not spore-producing discs, but are soralia, i.e., patches of powdery granules called soredia, which allow the lichen to reproduce asexually. This is the commonest of the British species of Ramalina. For pictures of other Ramalina species, see: 914821 |
