Description |
English: A Landscape with a Village on the Bank of a River This detailed painting shows a river scene and village, with both sides of the river visible. Small craft are on the river and in the middle distance to the right one ferries people to the bank on the left. An affluent group, consisting of a man in a feathered hat and two women with lace collars, stand in the centre foreground, having disembarked. A dog romps at their feet. Beside and beyond them are a variety of craft, some being loaded with goods. In front of the trees and wooden houses in the left foreground a seated woman sells fruit from a basket. On the hillock a man on a horse looks on, together with a seated man holding a stick, and a dog. Nearby lays a horse's skeleton. See also BHC0711. |
