Description |
English: A Japanese girl with a parasol No. 48 of 51 (PAJ2051 - PAJ2101) but loose in the album. This is a good figure study of a Japanese girl walking toward the artist. She wears a blue kimono with a red undergarment, a partly red sash and a red ribbon in her hair, and holds a closed parasol in her left hand. The dress is very similar to the girls shown in PAJ2099 and it is likely that all were involved in some sort of public occupation, such as a tea house, which would have allowed a Westerner to sketch them in the close detail he does. His other drawings of Japanese figures are generally staffage of landscape scenes, and often shown at a distance. |
