Nederlands: Een oud Soninké (Marka of Sarakolé) dorpshoofd, met een witte baard in een oude eenvoudige traditioneel geweven katoenen bruine boubou, een traditionele witte muts en een halsketting van twee of drie gri-gris (amuletten). Op de achtergrond traditionele lemen hutten met rieten daken, achter een eenvoudige wal van droge twijgen en boomtakken. Tegen de muur een eenvoudig geconstrueerde houten bank met een traditionele Malinese witte katoenen deken. Regio Kayes (Eerste Regio), Mali, 1972.
English: An old Soninké (Marka or Sarakolé) village chief, with a white beard in an old simple traditionally woven cotton brown boubou, a traditional white cap and a necklace of two or three gri-gris (amulets). In the background traditional clay huts with thatched roofs, surrounded by a simple wall consisting of dry twigs and tree branches. Against the wall a simply constructed wooden bench with a traditional Malian white cotton blanket. Kayes Region (First Region), Mali, 1972.
Français : Un vieux chef de village Soninké (Marka ou Sarakolé), avec une barbe blanche dans un vieux boubou marron en coton tissé traditionnel, un bonnet traditionnel blanc et un collier de deux ou trois gri-gris (amulettes). En arrière-plan, des huttes traditionnelles en argile aux toits de chaume, entourées d'un simple mur composé de brindilles sèches et de branches d'arbres. Contre le mur, un banc en bois de construction simple avec une couverture traditionnelle malienne en coton blanc. Région de Kayes (Première Région), Mali, 1972.
