Contexto: El período de los gobiernos radicales (1916-1930) fue abierto con la elección de Yrigoyen cuyo primer Gobierno se extendió entre los años 1916 y 1922, fue seguido por Alvear (1922-1928) y concluyó abruptamente con el Golpe de Estado de 1930 que dio fin al segundo gobierno yrigoyenista iniciado en 1928. Fue una etapa de gran transformación económica, social y política, signada por una democratización a gran escala pero que sin embargo se vio empañada por la represión a los movimientos de trabajadores, tuvo que incurrir en numerosas intervenciones provinciales y sufrió la oposición tanto interna al radicalismo (personalistas contra antipersonalistas) como de una gran parte del arco político, que aliado con el ejército propició el primer Golpe de Estado de la historia Argentina.
