The phenomenon of the glow of the "Maltese cross" in polarized light (amyloid body of the prostate)

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Amyloid or starch bodies (corpora amylacea) of the prostate consist of amyloid fibrils. Histological specimens are stained with Congo red dye, which can detect amyloid deposits. If the microslide is placed in the polarized light of a microscope, the phenomena of "green apple birefringent" and "Maltese cross" due to beta-folding of amyloid are revealed.
