Notes
  • Significance: Thomas Sim Lee in 1794 built the house and made his winter residence at the corner of 30th and "M" streets, now the two buildings 3001-3003 on "M" street. By 1800 he had acquired property at this corner extending 120 feet on "M" and 270 feet up 30h Street.

Robert Getty and Andrew Ross purchased a portion of this property in 1810 and in that year erected the buildings 3005-07 and 3009-11 on "M" and 1206, 1209 and 1210 on 30th street.

Thomas Sim Lee (1745-18189) was an active Federalist; twice governor of Maryland, his native state; and an ardent supporter of the American Revolution.

  • Survey number: HABS DC-65
