Доктор: Слушай, а ты, кстати, так и не научилась чувствовать красоту по-человечески? Это, кстати, пример твоего ограничения по сравнению с людьми. Русалочка: Ну как, ограничения… Я и так живу в мире постоянной красоты. Для меня одинаково прекрасно всё. И это небо, и эта арматура… ... И всё-таки... откуда я? Может, всё же, панспермия? Может быть, мы вообще созданы искусственно? И если тот, кто нас создал, заложил программу самоуничтожения, могу ли я бросить вызов его замыслу? Или этот вызов тоже будет в рамках замысла? Второй Принц: <смех> Люди тысячи лет думали над тем же вопросом. Русалочка: Мгм... Может быть, те, от кого мы произошли, сейчас где-то поджигают чёрные дыры… А я тут тужусь, чтоб только быть на вас похожей…Мы для них тоже, своего рода, муравьи. Вот ответь ме... что будет, если в какой-то ситуации на одной чаше весов окажется твоя жизнь, а на другой - жизнь всех людей на земле? Русалочка: Буду защищать свою. Второй Принц: А как же твоя любовь ко всем людям? Русалочка: После уничтожения людей она сделает моё счастье отрицательным, но всё же не навсегда. А если я потеряю жизнь, то потеряю вообще всё. Доктор: А если бы оказалось что навсегда? Русалочка: Покончила бы с собой. Всё тот же принцип: счастливые состояния надо продлевать, несчастливые укорачивать.
