Nederlands: Romaanse kapitelen in de kooromgang van de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek in Maastricht. De 20 figuratieve kapitelen dateren uit het midden van de 12e eeuw en behoren tot de hoogtepunten van de romaanse beeldhouwkunst in het Maasland. De drie op de voorgrond afgebeelde, vierzijdig gebeeldhouwde kapitelen worden in de vakliteratuur aangeduid als kapiteel 4, 5 en 5A. Kapiteel 4 (boven) toont de Bijbelse geschiedenis van Kaïn en Abel. Op de hier getoonde zijde d (rechter deel) is de moord van Abel door Kaïn te zien. De kapitelen 5, 5A, 6 en 6A zijn de centrale kapitelen van de kooromgang. Ze zijn tevens groter dan de andere, omdat het viervoudig samengestelde kapitelen betreft. Kapiteel 5 (beneden) toont scènes uit het leven van de aartsvader Jakob. Op de hier afgebeelde zijde d is te zien hoe Jakob en zijn broer Esau zich verzoenen. Kapiteel 5A (boven) toont vogels met lange nekken die in hun eigen vleugels pikken. |
