Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ledger stone the south corridor of the cloisters of the Kruisherenklooster in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The Gothic Monastery of the Crutched Friars dates from the 15th century and in 2005 was converted into a luxury hotel, the Kruisherenhotel. The ledger stone shown here was probably removed from the church in the 19th or 20th century and ended up here, in the lavabo or washroom, situated in a slightly projecting part of the cloister corridor. The 17th-century gravestone belonged to Joris Alardtz (†1621), his wife Maria (†16??) and his second wife or daughter Hedwig van Vucht (†1630). Length: 230 cms. Width: 105 cms. The text reads: o · godertierē · jhesu · lamp · godtz · ontfermt · dich · onser · amen. The rest is only partly legible and has been reconstructed by Baron Von Geusau: (hier ligt begrave joris) starf ano xvc xxi - iii septēb. ende mary syn huesf. sterf ano / (xvc.... ende herdwig von vucht) / sterf ano xvc xxx dē · xxix · dach [aprilis] / amen. Van Nispen tot Sevenaer (1926/1974), p. 257.
