Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Papal relief in Kruisherenkerk in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The Gothic church and monastery of the Croziers (or Crutched Friars) dates from the 15th century and was converted into a luxury hotel (Kruisherenhotel) in 2003-05, whereby most of the original architecture and artworks were preserved. The papal tiara and crossed keys refer to a vidimus of Pope John XXII of 1318 which allowed the Order of the Croziers to celebrate mass in Maastricht. The meaning of the lower depiction (of an astronomical clock?) is not known and may be unrelated to the relief above.
