English: A small amount of elemental sulfur is placed in the combustion spoon. Sulfur is heated and ignited using a gas burner. At first, the sulfur melts, and then it catches fire and burns. The burning sulfur is fed into the combustion chamber. Compared to the burning of sulfur in air, it can be noticed that the burning in an atmosphere of pure O2 is more vigorous. Air consists of 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen, so the amount of oxygen in this reaction is five times greater than in air. During combustion, the reaction taking place can described by the equation:
The sulfur dioxide that is a product of this reaction is water soluble and in the gas bubbler forms sulfurous acid that neutralizes the base. The excess acid lowers the pH value of the solution resulting in discoloration of the phenolphthalein solution:
Македонски: Во лажичката за согорување се става малку сулфур. Слуфурот се загрева и се пали на гасна греалка. На почетокот сулфурот се топи, а во следниот момент се пали. Така запалениот сулфур се внесува во комората за согорување и се следат промените. Во однос на горењето на сулфурот во атмосфера од воздух, се забележува дека интензитетот на горење во атмосфера на чист O2 е поголем. Воздухот се состои од 21% кислород и 78% азот, така што количеството кислород (и неговата концентрација) во оваа реакција е пет пати поголемо одошто во воздухот.
