Description A U.S. Navy ordnanceman, possibly Herman Schroeder, poses next to a 454 kg bomb loaded on a Douglas AD Skyraider of Fighter Squadron 54 (VF-54) "Hell's Angels" on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9) off Korea. The message written in chalk on the bomb makes clear its final destination. VF-54 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5) aboard the Essex for a deployment to Korea from 26 June 1951 to 25 March 1952.
