Description
English: This map is found in 『환영지(寰瀛誌)』, a book written by Wi Paek-kyu (1727-1798) in 1770, who was a scholar of Korean Confucianism on Silhak. It boldly illustrates only the essential urban structures of Joseon's capital city Hanyang, especially emphasizing the 'T-shaped' commercial downtown area around Jong-ro street and Jonggak belfry, laid down in south of royal space full with major palaces and the Jongmyo.
한국어: 이 지도는 조선시대의 실학자 위백규(1727-1798)에 의해 1770년 간행된 책인 『환영지(寰瀛誌)』에 실려있으며, 한양의 도시구조를 가장 중요한 뼈대만을 중심으로 대담하게 그려내고 있다. 이 지도는 한양의 도성 안 지역 내 도심부 상업지역이 궁궐 및 종묘가 들어선 왕실 공간에는 침범하지 못한 채 육조거리 아래의 종로와 종각, 광통교를 중심으로 하여 T자 형태의 구조로 발전했음을 보여준다.
