カリンポンは海抜四千呎の山上にあり、地は印藏國境に近く、西藏との貿易は、主として此の山上に於て行はれる。｜かくてカリンポンは印藏交通の要點に位するが故に、西藏の派遣官吏はこの地に駐在して入藏者を監視してゐる。山間掌大の一都會ではあるけれども、印藏交通上忘るべからざる要地である。｜（印畫の複製を禁ず）
