В молодости здесь жил химик С.П.Лебедев, разработчик технологии изготовления искусственного каучука. что впоследствии академик П.Капица в 1940 году назвал наиболее значительным вкладом России в промышленную технологию. Ряд помещений здесь занимала хорошо известная в городе частная немецкая женская гимназия, владелицей которой была Генриетта Кебке ("тётя Ета"), учредившая здесь детский сад , пансион и приготовительные классы. Среди жильцов числилась также Анна Ахматова с супругом.
