Summary

[edit]
Description
Bar = 5 µm.
English: The karyotype (chromosome set) of female Tscherskia triton de Winton, 1899 – Greater Long-tailed hamster (light microscopy with x100 magnification). The chromosomes were stained by C-banding for identify of structural heterochromatin. The diploid chromosome number is 2n=28. The karyotype of T. triton contains 26 autosomes (22 large and 4 small) and two sex X-chromosomes. The heterochromatin is darker areas of the chromosomes, it is compacted chromatin (the complex of DNA, proteins and RNA), which has special properties and functions. The heterochromatic blocks have two segments (arrows 1 and 2) on large chromosomes. The small chromosomes contain heterochromatin in the centromeric areas (c). The X-chromosomes have weak heterochromatin in the short arm (p) and less than ½ of the long arm (q), and the pericentromeric heterochromatin (c). The interphase nucleus of another cell is shown in the photo underside. Bar = 5 µm.
