English: In the case of three-layer vertical fluid stratification internal solitary waves can develop recirculating regions, known as “trapped cores". Trapped cores in the ocean may transport mass, including particles as larvae and plankton. At the figure shown frontal collision of such waves, and “trapped cores" are marked by black and white dye. During collision large amplitude internal solitary waves with trapped cores are exposed by Kelvin–Helmholtz instability. Українська: У випадку тришарової вертикальної стратифікації рідини внутрішні хвилі можуть утворювати зони рециркуляції, відомі як 'захоплені ядра'. Захоплені ядра в океані можуть переносити масу, включно з частинками, такими як личинки та планктон. На малюнку зображено процес фронтального зіткнення таких хвиль, захоплені ядра зафарбовано чорним та білим барвником.
