English: Plate (anode) current vs plate voltage in an early Mullard 020 tetrode vacuum tube (1921 or earlier) showing region of negative resistance (negative slope) used in dynatron oscillators. The horizontal axis is the ratio of plate (anode) voltage to screen grid voltage. It can be seen that dynatron action only occurs when the screen grid has a significantly higher potential than the plate. Modern tetrodes have their plate treated to inhibit secondary emission and so do not show this negative resistance region. |
