Summary
[edit]Author |
Admiral Sir Edward Gennys Fanshawe |
Description |
English: 'Pula, Bay of Cagliari, June 1857' [Sardinia] No. 16 in Fanshawe's Baltic and later album, 1843 - 83. Captioned by the artist on the album page below the image, as title. The fourth of a series of drawings of the Mediterranean fleet's summer cruise, from Malta and back, between 3 June and 7 November 1857. Drawn when Admiral Lord Lyons's squadron spent five days in the Bay of Cagliari, southern Sardinia. This view looks west across the bay to the promontory bearing the ruins of the ancient Roman port of Nora, with the prominent and more recent tower at its extreme south end (for further details see PAI4688). The vessels in the bay are probably local. |
