Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "The Black Watch" Statue at Forrest Lodge [Fred Olsen's house] This used to be the figurehead of the ship "Black Watch". She sailed on the Newcastle/Oslo service and was owned by the Olsen line. During World War Two the Germans Commandeered both her and her sister ship, "The Black Prince". The "Black Watch" was bombed and sunk by the Fleet Air Arm near Halstead, Norway. In 1963 she was salvaged for scrap but the figurehead was returned to her owner, Fred Olsen, who had it restored and placed at the entrance to his Galloway estate. Although it looks like wood it is in fact made of metal. To see the statue turn off the A713 [north of Dalry] where it is marked "Forrest Roads". [Spelt with double "r"] It is approximately 4 miles down this track.
