Countess Elizabeth Báthory (Báthory Erzsébet in Hungarian, Alžbeta Bátoriová in Slovak, Alžběta Báthoryová in Czech, Elżbieta Batory in Polish, 7 August 1560 – 21 August 1614) was a Hungarian countess from the renowned Báthory family. Many legends were born of the countess's cruelty, but they are based on malicious rumors. The written documents available today do not prove the murders. Báthori Erzsébet was arbitrarily arrested without trial, her servants were executed quickly, but the girls found in the castle were not questioned.
