Changes with regard to the 2012 version of the questionnaire

[edit]
  • Adapted country list
  • Q4, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q13: Updated for 2013.
  • Q6: Added additional answer options based on WLM 2012 participants' survey results.
  • Q7: More precise formulation (this question didn't work well in previous years - many people indicated more countries than they have ever uploaded pictures from)
  • Q14: Asking about obstacles also with regard to friends.
  • Q15-Q17: Changed the repsonse labels to make them fit all the statements.
  • Q19: New question based on WLM Future Workshop at Wikimania 2013.
  • Q20: New question. (This question was tested in the WLPA 2013 survey; it seemed to work well; we don't know yet, however, whether the chapters concerned will actually follow up on the information received, nor do we know yet what the results will be of this follow-up.)
  • Re-formulated several questions for clarity / in order to correct mistakes.

Q 6

[edit]

It might be worth adding an option for "I participated last year" to this question as this is a case where you might simply have known it was going to happen again. /Lokal_Profil 15:55, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering whether we should add an item "I just remembered it from last year"; we can do that. --Beat Estermann (talk) 07:13, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some suggestions

[edit]
  • Introduction: perhaps it makes sense to indicate how the results will be analyzed? (in collaboration with etc.)
  • Q 5c: does it make sense to replace Wiki Loves Public Art in Ukrainian & Russian here with Wiki Loves Earth?
  • Q 7: it would be slightly more accurate to use 'for' instead of 'from' as 'from' could refer to physical location of the uploader rather than the object.
  • Q 20: I think we would also send the reply to Q1, unless we want them to fill out their interested countries manually.
  • Q 20: Why are we asking for postal code? I would also change 'city' to 'city/region/state' to allow people living in villages etc which have very common names :) Effeietsanders (talk) 09:56, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lodewijk, thanks for your suggestions.
  • Introduction: Ok, done.
  • Q 5c: I added "Wiki Loves Earth". To keep it simple, I would suggest using the same items for all languages, though.
  • Q 7: When going through last year's responses I have the impression that some people associated the 'for' with the physical location of the future users of the photos - anything else doesn't make much sense if you come across respondents who simply ticked all the countries. - I've reformulated the question to take into account both that misunderstanding and your remark.
  • Q 20: Only implicitly. We will use Q1 to filter the respondents and send the information only to their respective chapter / organizing team. I don't think we need to declare this more specifically; it's kind of implicit in the way it's formulated now, isn't it?
  • Q 20: In many countries, you can easily identify places belonging to larger regions based on the postal code (that's much easier than checking for each place name where it might be situated); it also helps for disambiguation. If we chose a system with "city" / "region/state", we would have to localize it according to the country, e.g. for German: Bundesland (Germany/Austria) vs. Kanton (Switzerland). Otherwise, you won't get coherent responses. This would be quite a hassle and not really practicable in the present setup. That's why I would prefer the approach involving the postal code. - Are there any countries where the postal code doesn't carry any geographical information? Or am I missing anything else?

The problem with Q20 asking for postal codes is that this means something different in each country. In the Netherlands, the postal codes are designed to identify the home by postal code + number; meaning that the postal codes mostly go to a sub-streetlevel (multiple postal codes per street). This is way too specific for our purposes. Effeietsanders (talk) 20:57, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, do you think Dutch respondents wouldn't want to indicate their postal code because it is too specific (privacy considerations)? - Otherwise, I don't really see the problem of collecting overly specific information in some cases, you could still use the more general part of the postal code to filter respondents, couldn't you? --Beat Estermann (talk) 21:20, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
