On examples

For the translations, I think some of the examples should be "localized" if possible, especially the Wikibooks and Wikinews ones at the bottom. Just browse around your language editions of the Wikimedia projects and try to find interesting stories about Commons usage to tell.--Eloquence

Date of release

Anthere has changed the date of the release to the 25th due to an as of yet unreleased press release by Villy which is meant to be sent out at the same time. I'll try to coordinate things a bit.--Eloquence

It would be best to wait a few days before sending this press release.

More precisely it would be best to wait on the 25th... because there will be an announcement about wikicommons on that date. This announcement is not yet public but will be made public on the 25th.

Aurevilly has already written an announcement for it, in english.

It might be useful to see if both releases could not be merged in one... I suggest the parties involved in the commons press release discuss this before any publishing of this one.

I've merged Villy's announcement from the grants wiki with this press release, without the parts that need to be kept secret. Angela 12:30, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

In the course of moving it to the grants wiki and back, Notafish edited it at the grants wiki saying "The yorck project did not donate the 10 000, Directmedia did, they bought thr rights from the Yorck Projects to put it under GFDL", which is why "donated by The Yorck Project" has changed to "donated by Directmedia Publishing, a German publishing company.". I manage the computer network of the Curie Institute (a research center in biology and physics) in Paris.
I was a "user" of the wikipedia since a few years, mostly the en: part. I recently did some search on the fr: part,
and discovered some errors in a few articles in the field I know : computer science. I then decided to register and 
do the modifications myself. I met a friendly group of wikipedians who helped me, mostly through IRC. I plan to 
continue writing new articles mostly in french.

I answered Erik's email at about 5am, so maybe I could have used the more politically correct expression "minor errors" or "incomplete information" rather than "some errors," but this was really my motivation to register and start contributing. Microarray_printing.ogg

It looks to me like the array is printed with pins, and not etched. In the en:DNA microarray article it's said that this is a microarray being made, but is it really etched ??? --J.e 00:38, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

What the pin does is it dips into a well of the DNA mixture (background, left), dabs itself off a few times on a pad (foreground, left), then dabbs the remainder onto the array itself. So it's not being 'etched' as in glass, but it's being depositied in small holes on the array. Raul654 03:29, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
