Question from Mono

[edit]

Merci.

@BrVn0w: Merci pour le poste! Fixed. --Kaganer (talk) 20:37, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Goose friend

[edit]

Can I somewhere see which picture has an an advantage so far?

Goose friend (talk) 05:20, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Goose friend: No, you can't, except by opening all voting pages or writing some aggregator software. I have to talk to the POTY committee to evaluate, whether this is wanted or not. -- Rillke(q?) 09:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ellsass

[edit]

Was my vote submitted?

I clicked the individual "vote" button for a picture, but since we could potentially change our vote I was expecting there to be a big "Submit" button at the top or bottom of the page to confirm that we are done selecting an image.

Ellsass (talk) 16:06, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ellsass: Yes, your vote was submitted properly. This happens when you click 'vote' so there is no need for a submit button. Let me know if you have any other questions. —Mono 16:19, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Be..anyone

[edit]

This maze of protected pages not working like anything else on any MediaWiki installation is horrible. I created three redirects in the Help namespace to the project help page for last year (i.e., 2013 in 2014.) Various POTY talk pages refuse to be edited with an ordinary {{editprotected}}, that's supposed to work everywhere, and it works even for system messages in the MediaWiki namespace.

What I really wanted to report, in round 2 the same problem as in round 1 showed up on Commons:Picture of the Year/2013/R2/v/Ніжний ранковий світло.jpg‎, but I'm unable to find the one editable page, where this nit was addressed for round 1. –Be..anyone (talk) 07:25, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Be..anyone:
Sorry about the maze. We are using the translate extension this year and that means people are sent to language-specific subpages (/Help/es). When they click on the 'Discussion' tab, their message is lost and they never get help. We have protected these talk pages so that this does not happen. The vote pages are also protected to prevent tampering.
I fixed that vote. In the future, just report everything to this page. All roads should (and for the most part, do) lead here. Thanks for your help. —Mono 15:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. My attempt to create "dated #REDIRECTs" in Help:POTY&Co. with {{#time:Y|now-1year}} failed; the hardwired 2013 will be wrong in about 9 months. ;-) –Be..anyone (talk) 23:00, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lx 121

[edit]

hi;

where are the "committee" and/or discussion/planning pages for poty 2013? UNLIKE EVERY OTHER YEAR, the poty 2013 headers do not' include links for this, & i've spent the last few minutes looking, & that is much longer than it should take.

respectfully, it seems like the unspoken theme of this year's poty has been "less open-ness"; in a number of ways. i'm somewhat bothered by that, tbh.

Lx 121 (talk) 13:08, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Lx 121: You find the links below the header at Commons talk:Picture of the Year/2013. Committee is there. Also was looking for this page a lot of times but I think the majority of visitors is not interested (2012 committee page was linked; compare against the main page and the gallery-page statistics.) And as said last year, you are free to join the committee. The right time to join the 2014 committee is probably now. Write your suggestions down, implement them or ask someone to give you a hand, if your proposal covers matters that you are not able to solve yourself. Watch out for new committee volunteers. Something that I missed this year was, for example, a structured plan, including design considerations and problems that have to be addressed. Finally, we had an edit-button on the descriptions but no one was able to edit these descriptions because the file description pages were cascade protected. -- Rillke(q?) 13:38, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose it may appear to be less open. We've worked hard to make the voting experience as seamless as possible (something that is rather hard for MediaWiki which was never designed to do anything like this) and the committee has changed little (only shrunk) over the past couple of years so there's a lot less planning. We just repeated what we did last year and jumped straight to execution. Just wanted to perhaps explain that a little - not sure if that helps. I'd like to echo what Rillke said - we are much smaller and the amount of work only grows, so if you're interested please join. —Mono 17:42, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
4 people (and only 3 during the contest) had to take care of >3000 voters and 962 candidates. We truly need to recruit new volunteers next year. On the other hand, this year, we had close to zero off-wiki talk so I wouldn't agree that it was less open. -- Rillke(q?) 18:28, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I confess that it would take a while to find the committee page this year, because there was no "Committee" link on POTY banner. Well...it may be effective to put "Join the Committee" link on the POTY header in order to recruit new (or former) members. --miya (talk) 05:39, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah! Fixed Database corruption at Translations:Commons:Picture of the Year/2013/Results/R2/msg/35/uk. Page was inserted in page table but revision text wasn't. -- Rillke(q?) 09:43, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

السلام عليكم .. هل يوجد جوائز مالية او عينية على الصور التي يتم رفعها من قبل المشترك وشكرا"..؟

We currently do not issue prizes to winners; but the most voted files are usually displayed on the Main Page so they get a lot of attention. -- Rillke(q?) 12:11, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Translation item "Page display title" is not used by this page

[edit]

There are several translations for "Page display title" item for this page, but they are not used on the page. Examples: Russian and German help pages for POTY2013. Compare with same pages in 2014: Russian and German. — andrybak (talk) 06:42, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
