TUSC token number location
[edit]Concerning the TUSC token (Toolserver User Screening Control). Is it only necessary to have the token number in an edit summary for an edit to one's talk page? I have that for my talk pages on both Wikipedia and the Commons. See this diff (Commons) and this diff (Wikipedia).
I have since removed the token numbers from my talk pages. Am I still OK since the token number is in a talk page edit summary? --Timeshifter (talk) 21:24, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Current status
[edit]I tried to use CommonsHelper 2 to copy this image to the Commons:
The new filename was to be File:U.S. federal prisoner distribution since 1950.png
After clicking "Do it" it eventually went to an incomplete Toolserver page with just the header banner that says: "A tool to transfer files from Wikimedia projects to Wikimedia Commons. Change the category and template settings for en.wikipedia. Change language! Report a bug or suggest a feature." The rest of the page was blank.
The page gave no indication of whether the image was copied to the Commons, or whether it would be copied to the Commons later. Is there a page somewhere that indicates the current status of Toolserver? --Timeshifter (talk) 03:58, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

- It is working now, but this is confusing: "Attention : The upload function is only available to some users during the test period!" I clicked the upload button. What is supposed to be removed?

The upload bot is [[User:CommonsHelper2 Bot]] which is called by
[http://toolserver.org/~commonshelper2/index.php CommonsHelper2].
The tool and the bot are operated by [[User:Jan Luca]] and [[User:Magnus Manske]].
I removed it all after adding a category.

[edit]The tool has the same, IMO wrong output as the old Commonshelper tool. The "author" field should be exactly as it is in the source project, and all the stuff about moving it and uploading it first belongs in the "source" field. The date field should also be exactly as it is in the source project, only if it is empty the tools should try and insert the original upload date. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 17:26, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- IMO the outputted text in the Commons information template is OK because the tool cannot decide if there is already a "good" text inside the fields. This work should do the uploader. The tool allows you to change the description before uploading so you can do this kind of work. --Jan Luca (talk) 11:00, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- This work is tiresome, since it is always the same, and it should be done by a computer, not a human user. Again: the tool pretends that the uploader info is part of the authorship, with no reason whatsoever. Since most of our licenses require attribution, the tool effectifely puts wrong information in the crucial field for that: the "author" field. If there is no information in the author field in the source project, then the tool shouldn't move anything at all, and if there is information in the author field, it is not the tool's job to decided if it's useful or not, but it must be kept exactly as is. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 16:55, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

I've helped to localise {{GFDL-user}} and derivative templates, and I think whether it would make sense to change template {{Self}} so that it would allow displaying informations in a similar way:

- to remix – to adapt the work
- Under the following conditions:
- attribution – You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
"aus der englischsprachigen Wikipedia"/"at the English language Wikipedia"/... [1] like in description of File:EuskoTran.jpg. I see two ways of making this: User:BartekChom/self and User:BartekChom/autoauthor.
I didn't get any response in Village pump, and now I think that using User:BartekChom/autoauthor wouldn't need much changes. This tool produces probably most descriptions with {{self|author=}} (like File:Bangla.ogg) so if it would write {{autoauthor|Rahulghose|en}} instead of [[:en:User:Rahulghose|Rahulghose]], this template would appear in most places it is needed in. Help on non-existing file
[edit]Hello, I have trouble with the source name of the file. It is YCBA interior1.jpg. Shall I write
- YCBA interior1.jpg
- File:YCBA interior1.jpg
- en:File:YCBA interior1.jpg

[edit]I'm having trouble with CommonsHelper 2. I can access the form to fill out the required information; however, when I click "Do it" the page takes a while to load and eventually errors with "Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data." OAuth permission required for every computer?
[edit]A few days ago, I was asked to give permission to CommonsHelper to upload files under my name when I started using it for the first time. But when I went to transfer files using a different computer, I was again asked to give permission. "Ignore warnings" option not working?
[edit]I was trying to transfer a file from the English Wikipedia other day when I got a warning that the file was previously deleted on Commons. From what I could tell, the original contributor does own the rights to the image. I checked the option to ignore warnings, but the warning still came up and the file was not transferred.
