Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photographic competition to promote historic sites around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate.
There are a lot of historic monuments in all participating countries. The goal of Wiki Loves Monuments is to encourage people to take pictures of those monuments, and to put them under a free licence so that they are shared with the world through the Internet. To achieve that, an international contest will take place in September 2018. This page introduces the Ghana part of this competition.
In September, you may upload as many picture as you want of monuments that you have visited. Pictures don't have to be taken in September, but must be uploaded that month to be considered. At the end of the month, the contest jury will begin evaluating the photographs and will choose the best 10 pictures of the monuments in Ghana, and ultimately in the world.

Why participate?
Participate in Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest photography competition in the world, and help Wikipedia document monuments and heritage buildings.
Participating is fun! By photographing and sharing images of heritage nearby you, you can explore more about Ghanaian heritage and learn about it! It's a good challenge to improve your photography skills, and you can of course win some nice prizes. The winner takes home a camera lens.The national jury will select up to 10 images that will represent Ghana in the international finale. These images will compete for the international awards. We try to keep the competition clean and simple to participate. There are only a few rules for photos to participate in the contest in Ghana. Let's quickly go through them. Every submission should be:
Self taken and self uploaded;
Uploaded during September 2019;
During the upload process, you give permission with a CC BY-SA license to re-use the image;
Contain a listed monument, which you have identified using the monument identifier. See List of monuments here.
Next to that, there are a few practical rules:
You should have an activated e-mail address on Wikimedia Commons;
If the photo gets deleted for any reason, it is automatically disqualified from the competition;
You are responsible for following the law while taking and uploading the photo.
Judging criteria
The jury will determine the winners of the international contest taking into the consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):
Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.);
Originality;
Usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.
Images that reach a top ranking of the international finale, will typically at least fulfill the technical criteria of the ‘Featured Image’ process at Wikimedia Commons. But feel free to submit many images, and let the jury be concerned if they are good enough.
Jury
Our jury will process the images through two or three rounds during October. At the end of this process, the jury determines the top-10. If there are any doubts about the implementation of the rules, the jury decides.

More about Ghana's monuments
The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) is the legal organisation responsible for the preservation of Ghana's material cultural heritage. It was founded on 5 March 1957, soon after Ghana became independent, by a merge of the National Museum and the Monuments and Relics Commission by Ordinance 20. Find list of monuments here:
Step 1: Find a monument in your region. Check: are on the list of monuments (see below)? Note the monument ID!
Step 2: Make photos of the monument. Make as many and as good photos as you can, try different angles. Even if the photo doesn't win you a prize, it may help Wikipedia!
Step 3: Write down what you photographed. Record the site's name, the monument ID, description, and date of photo.
Step 4: Don't have a Wikimedia Commons account yet? Create one - takes just a few moments! Make sure that your email address is confirmed.
